Matthew found early success in his career, leaving the family farm to become the youngest licensed financial advisor in Canada. After building a $42M practice over four years he sold the business to Investors Group Financial Services, Canada’s largest full service wealth management firm at the time. Featured in Canada’s leading financial industry publication Investment Executive, Matthew experienced award-winning success (Pillar Awards, President’s Club) by unpacking complex financial problems, regulatory issues for securities, tax, estate, and insurance legislation to provide simplified solutions.
Matthew has a decade of technology management consulting experience driving innovation for companies, ranging from high-growth startups seeking to scale into enterprise markets to major multinationals, including Virgin Group, Investors Group Financial Services, BDC, Bank of Canada.
Matthew has also provided consulting services to organizations such as the Canadian Centre for Cold Climate Innovation, First Nations Technology Council, and has held Secret Level clearance with CSIS, a.k.a. Canada’s CIA; his career has been focused on helping organizations leverage technology to identify opportunities, drive innovation, and gain competitive advantages on a global scale.
In 2015, Matthew co-founded a FinTech company with a product designed to automate and digitize all workflows and end-to-end task management for financial advisors; from onboarding and verifying an investor, to fulfilling Canada’s CRM2 requirements, to a direct integration into a Schedule 1 bank for post trade processing. In 2016, Matthew led the technical management for a proof of concept at MIT to use Ethereum to automate the matching and fulfillment of interest rate swaps over LIBOR in accordance with Basel III.
Matthew completed MIT Media Lab’s Fintech Innovation Management program with distinction and also holds a management certificate from MIT Sloan in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Business Strategy. He is currently an advisor and investor in multiple ventures, a frequent Forbes writer, a member of the Forbes Technology Council and the United Nations BFI working group on Digital Identity. Matthew is a globally recognized expert on issues of Ethics in Big Data & AI, Security Token Regulation, and Decentralized Finance.
